Network Overview

CNM Network

CNM Network is an Internet company, which provides, among other services, dial-up Internet access, “virtual” web hosting, and Internet telephony. Dial-up access is provided nationally through lines that are owned by CNM itself, or leased from such companies as Starnet (Megapop, Popsite) and Level3. Internet telephony uses CNM’s own gateway numbers and traffic is contained within CNM’s own lines and servers throughout the state of California, with plans to expand into national coverage.

A Quick Note About Leased Lines

Leasing lines for dial-up internet access is common practice among internet providers. This enables providers to give service in areas where they do not currently have equipment, or to provide alternate access numbers in case of network problems. It is the policy of CNM Network that leasing of lines not be discussed with Customers.

Since these leased lines are not under the control of CNM Engineers, there are sometimes problems with the way our network interacts with these lines, especially problems relating to Ghosted Sessions and Authentication. These topics will be discussed in greater detail, later in this handbook.
